As an adjunct in the treatment of excess weight, accompanied by low-carbohydrate diets. It is also indicated in cases of excess triglycerides.
The effects of this plant are due to hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which produces a reduction in body weight. This is partly because it produces a satiating effect. Moreover, it inhibits the biosynthesis of fats in the body, thereby reducing the accumulation of fats.
In vitro studies show that HCA promotes mobilization of glucose in the liver and inhibits the biosynthesis of triacylglycerols, phospholipids, cholesterol, diglycerides, cholesterol esters and free fatty acids.
Leaves and roots. Often its aerial parts are sold; aerial parts and roots are mixed, inflorescence free.
